Seeking help is a sign of strength, and not a sign of weakness. The sooner we seek help, the faster we get back on track towards living a life we find meaning in.
We all experience stressors, difficult emotions like anxiety and fear, painful losses and other forms of distress at some point in our lives. At times, we are able to bounce back and be our regular selves in no times. Other times, we may need a little extra help.
How do we know when we need therapy? Here are some signs:
- Generally feeling overwhelmed
- Feeling sad and more tearful than usual
- Difficulty regulating emotions and being more irritable/ losing temper more easily
- Not enjoying activities previously enjoyed
- Feeling stuck; wanting to move forward or improve but not knowing where to start
- Repeating unhelpful patterns in life/ unhelpful relationship dynamics
- Struggling with a major life transition
- Experienced a trauma
- Not functioning at your best; quality of life affected
- Losing hope; seeing no meaning in living
However, we may not necessarily need to have a "problem" to seek psychotherapy. There may be times we just want someone neutral and unbiased to talk to. Or, we may want to explore ways to take our life in a fuller, meaningful direction.
